BTP Environmental Services can help you manage any wildlife problems. The UK is experiencing an increase in populations of non-native species that have been released or escaped from captivity. We are registered with Natural England to trap Edible Dormice (Glis Glis) and have water craft for water based problems such as Mink and Geese.
The Department for Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) reports the following in their document for ‘The Invasive Non-Native Species Framework Strategy for Great Britain – Protecting our natural heritage from invasive species’:
“Invasive non-native species of flora and fauna are considered the second biggest threat after habitat loss and destruction to biodiversity worldwide and the greatest threat to fragile ecosystems such as islands.”
Various systems can be employed such as scaring and habitat modification as part of an integrated action plan. All species are covered by UK legislation so specific licences may be required to carry out population control programmes.
Problem animals include:
- Grey Squirrel
- Canada Goose
- Egyptian Goose
- Edible Door Mouse (Glis Glis)
- Red Breasted Merganser
- Wild Boar
